Dear unusual Parents, I hope you are splendid as you read my words. Words breathe out of a passion and hunger to stir up your parenting genius, help you raise phenomenal humans and help you establish Trans-generational influence.
Here is the 2nd of the family culture series, where I want to talk to you about rising to your CEO role as a parent. Because you are the CEO of your family Inc.
See yourself as the president of your own “family life corporation.” Sounds great right?
Do you know what this means? Okay, let me tell you a bit about what this is all about.
It means you are the ultimate decision-maker when it comes to your family, that you are in charge of managing the overall operations of your family.
In context, it means you are responsible for your family culture; creating it and policing it to ensure that it is maintained by every family member.
Parenting is an enormous responsibility but if some persons have excelled at it before now, then you are able to do even better. You are the perfect mum or dad your kids could ever ask for, everything you have been through has served the purpose of preparing you for this awesome privilege of parenting. You are tougher than the challenges that come with raising your kids.
This is what I believe of you, do you believe the same?
You just need to become obsessed with winning in your parenting like many are about their career or business. Prioritise your family and parenting then go ahead to contribute to the world, phenomenal and wholesome children that will ever make you proud.
Still on family culture, family culture is the underlying beliefs, assumptions, values and ways of interacting that contribute to the unique social and psychological environment of a family. It is the collection of values and practices that guides and inform the actions of all members of a family.
Your family culture is seen in action when we see how you correct a wrong child, how you talk to your children, how your children communicate with the driver, maid or housekeepers. It’s seen in how children relate with themselves, in the language that they speak and the attitude they exude.
Families that prioritise culture will weather difficult times and changes swiftly to come out better and stronger. Family culture differs from one family to another, however, there are some traits common to unusually successful kingdom families that you should seek to cultivate. Some of them include:
Love, Faith, Honour and accountability, Appreciation, Resilience, Recreation and some more that I may not remember at the moment.
Your family culture is hugely important to the success of your parenthood and parenting. So it’s helpful to invest time into intentionally curating and maintaining it.
This week, I want to encourage you to think through and identify your family values. You might not need to be told to do this, but I'm betting you are human enough that you need to be reminded.
Here is a quick thought exercise: note down on a piece of paper or your device’s notebook, FIVE ATTRIBUTES THAT BEST DESCRIBE YOUR FAMILY CULTURE. Now spend some time thinking about each and why it is important to the kind of children you seek to raise. Because when the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable.
Kindly drop a comment for me, reading from you is therapeutic for me, I need it that much.
Do have a beautiful week,
Always cheering for you,
Lara.
